Easton, MD — Tred Avon Players will hold auditions on March 9 and 10 at 6pmfor the role of Inspector Ruffing in its upcoming fall production of Ravenscroft. Auditions at the TAP Studio, on the second floor of 114 North Washington Street, Easton, MD.
Directed by veteran TAP actor and director Rob Sanchez. Set in 1905 England, Ravenscroft is a gothic psychological mystery steeped in shifting truths and emotional undercurrents. What begins as a straightforward investigation becomes something far more intimate — and far more dangerous.
The Role: Inspector Ruffing
Age Range: 30s–50sThe Investigator. The Outsider. The Man Who Thinks He’s in Control.
Inspector Ruffing arrives at Ravenscroft Manor to investigate the death of Patrick Roarke. He expects logic. Facts. A simple case. Instead, he encounters contradictions, seduction, manipulation, and a house that feels almost alive.
Ruffing is intelligent, observant, and dryly humorous. He begins with authority and composure — posture controlled, voice crisp. But over the course of the play, that control erodes. His confidence fractures. His emotional scars resurface. His grip on the investigation — and himself — begins to slip.
The actor cast in this role must navigate:
Emotional restraint that gives way to vulnerability
A precise British accent
Physical control that gradually unravels
A descent from rational authority to destabilized humanity
Inspector Ruffing’s objective is clear: uncover the truth.
His obstacles: contradictory testimonies, the manor’s dreamlike atmosphere, and his own buried past.
This is a demanding, layered role at the heart of a haunting theatrical experience.
Auditioners will read from the script. British accent required.
Auditions for additional roles will be held later this year.
